What Does Microneedling Do?
Microneedling is a cosmetic skin treatment that uses tiny needles to prick the skin. This helps the skin and its natural healing process by promoting collagen production. As the micro-wounds heal, wrinkles, lines, and scars begin to fill with new, healthy skin.
This cosmetic procedure doesn’t use harsh chemicals or cause significant skin trauma, making it a good procedure for any skin type.
What Can Microneedling Do for the Skin?
Microneedling has many benefits for skin care. Below are some of the most common skin imperfections that this procedure treats.
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Post-operative, traumatic, and acne scars
- Large pores
- Uneven skin tone
- Skin texture
- Stretch marks
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Microneedling also known as collagen induction therapy, creates microchannels into the skin with tiny sterile needles in order to induce new healthy collagen. This stimulates the release of epidermal growth factors, without damaging the skin. The perforations made by the small needles give a controlled injury to the skin. This normal skin response to a controlled injury results in old dead skin being sloughed off, being replaced by new rejuvenated skin.
*Microneedling can be boosted by adding Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from your own blood for amplified results and reduced healing time. Reducing broken capillaries, evens skin tone and gives the skin a fresh glow and firmer, smoother texture. Single w/ PRP
Before beginning the micro-needling procedure, our esthetician spread a numbing cream on your face. This minimizes any discomfort or pain when the needles prick your skin.
Our micro-needling devices make small cuts in the skin, which may cause minor bleeding. Dr. Nusbaum drags the device along the targeted areas where you struggle with signs of aging, acne scarring, or large pores. Overall, the cosmetic treatment takes around 30 minutes to complete, although it could be longer depending on the size of your treatment area.
After the treatment, we spread a serum on the face to soothe the skin.
Some micro-needling results become apparent immediately. You can see minor changes where the skin begins to heal from instant collagen production. However, the most substantial results, such as reduced pore size, scar indentations, or severe wrinkles, won’t become visible until four to six weeks after your treatment.
These results last for three to five months, at which point you will need additional treatment to maintain smooth skin.
Recovery & Aftercare
Micro-needling recovery is short—a minimum of 24 hours and typically no more than two to three days. Although your skin may become irritated and red, there’s no downtime. You can return to work and normal activities immediately following your micro-needling treatment.
However, to help your skin heal, there are some ideal aftercare steps. It’s ideal to avoid exercise for at least two days following your procedure. Use minimal makeup and sleep on your back to avoid pressure on your face. When washing the face, use lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser.
