How Does Liposuction Work? A Closer Look

If you are one of the many people struggling to get rid of excess body fat, there is hope for you. Getting regular exercise and eating a balanced diet are the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, due to factors such as age and genetics, your body may not respond to exercise and diet as it used to, making it hard to shed excess weight.

Laser liposuction is an advanced cosmetic treatment that targets excess fat deposits that traditional methods fail to address. Board-Certified surgeon Dr. Michael Nusbaum will make sure that your liposuction procedure is successful. You can rely on him to help you achieve the results you desire.

What Is SmartLipo™?

SmartLipo is a less invasive procedure than traditional liposuction. SmartLipo is an FDA-approved laser liposuction procedure that targets excess fat deposits. SmartLipo can address unwanted fat on your face, including your neck and chin.

It relies on the latest laser technology to re-contour your body and face. This minimally invasive surgical procedure requires little downtime for recovery. Laser liposuction can effectively treat excess fat in the following areas of your body:

  • Love handles
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Bra bulges
  • Saddlebags
  • Abdomen
  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Inner thighs

How Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that uses suction to remove excess fat from various areas of your body. This reshapes and redefines your natural contours. Liposuction is effective on areas of your body that are not responding to exercise and diet.

The procedure is performed by a board-certified surgeon to make sure you are safe and that the results are effective. It is important to know that laser liposuction is not a weight-loss alternative. Although it can help you lose a few pounds, its primary focus is not weight loss but excess fat bulges.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is a versatile cosmetic treatment that offers effective results. However, like all procedures, some factors must be taken into consideration to ensure optimal results.

Liposuction is best suited if you are at your ideal weight. If you are overweight or obese, liposuction will not work for you. We recommend having a stable weight for at least six months before having liposuction.

Liposuction is better suited for you if you are a non-smoker and in good health. This includes having good skin elasticity and muscle tone.

If you are in good general health, a non-smoker, and at your ideal weight, but you still have excess fat deposits that you want to get rid of, liposuction can offer effective results. Lastly, but equally important, having realistic expectations and a positive mindset about the procedure will enhance your results.

How Do I Prepare for Liposuction?

Before you have your liposuction surgery, you will need to schedule a consultation with us. During this consultation, we will review your areas of concern and discuss your desired goals. We will also conduct a physical examination to assess your current health condition. In addition, we will review your medical history and adjust your current medication if we feel it is necessary.

Anti-inflammatories, aspirin, and herbal supplements may need to be removed from your medication routine for a few weeks before liposuction. If you have any questions, we will gladly answer them to put your mind at ease. This will also help you to enjoy your surgery and achieve optimal results.

The Liposuction Procedure

You should arrange for someone to drive you to your liposuction appointment. Before the procedure begins, we will take photos of the target area and mark the fat deposits. Anesthesia will then be administered to ensure your liposuction procedure is comfortable.

We make incisions in natural creases on your body to hide any scarring that may occur post-treatment. The fat is then prepared for the liposuction process. Fluids are delivered to the target to reduce blood loss and make the fat-removal process easier.

A small hollow metal tube is moved back and forth to loosen the excess fat. It is then sucked out of your body. When we are satisfied with the fat extraction, we will close your incisions and fit a small drainage tube to remove excess fluids.

Recovery Time for Liposuction

Your recovery begins here with us in a designated recovery area. Here, you will be fitted with a compression garment to control swelling and help the target area adapt to your new and improved body shape.

You will be able to leave shortly after your procedure and continue recovery in the comfort of your home. We recommend that you arrange for someone to drive you home after your liposuction procedure. Taking extra care of yourself during your recovery is essential to ensure optimal results.

The Results of Liposuction

You may not see any visible results immediately after liposuction due to fluid retention. However, liposuction can remove up to 10 pounds of fat and make your skin firmer. You will be able to see results between one and three months after the surgery.
